“What I want now is to pass on my knowledge to the young: to see the light in their eyes after performing the first surgery as a first operator, to see them grow and become independent.
This makes me love my job”
Marco Zanobini
What we do
We offer our skills in the treatment and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases to those in need of cardiac surgery. We are also committed to the training of the personnel, in order to develop the local health system.
Taking Care
Life expectancy in Burkina Faso is about 50-55 years. As a consequence, most of the people suffering from heart disease is young, between 15 and 25 years.
These patients have a heart valve involvement that requires replacement or repair. They suffer from diseases that in Europe and in more developed countries have long since disappeared, while in Burkina Faso they are still present today.
Health services and access to treatment for cardiovascular diseases are limited in the country. Patients often do not receive the appropriate diagnosis or treatment and when they do, the stage of the disease is already advanced.
Training
The aim of the Association is to train local personnel so that cardiovascular diseases can be diagnosed and treated in time and in an effective manner within the country.
Our team is committed, each in their own field, to bring their skills to the local staff through training programmes on specific topics. This goes together with practical and clinical activities.
Prevention
Dr Perlangeli's MIGOTIGO association is developing a rheumatic disease prevention project in Burkina Faso aimed at primary school children. Safe Heart, with great honour, stands by its side to make this project a reality.
Research
With the development of clinical cardiac surgery and with the ambitious project of transferring know-how to the medical-surgical team in Burkina, it is also important to grow in the area of cardiovascular research, which is a crucial point.
To this regard, our Association is defining shared research programmes that will lead to the realisation of important projects. This will end up to publications in international scientific journals.
